Flyway (“we,” “us”) is operated by [YOUR NAME / “an individual developer”]. Questions? Contact us at [CONTACT EMAIL].
Location. With your permission, we use your device location (or a location you tap on a map) to: look up which bird species are local residents vs. migrants for your window assessment, find nearby wildlife rescue centers, and attach a location to a collision report. You can use a map tap instead of GPS, and you can deny or revoke location permission in your device settings at any time.
Window questionnaire answers. Your responses about a window (size, reflectivity, height, nearby feeders/vegetation, lighting, existing treatments, and whether a bird has hit it) are used to calculate your risk result. These describe a window, not you.
Collision reports. If you report a bird collision, we collect what you provide: species (or “unknown”), the bird's condition, date and time, location, an optional photo, and — if you choose the optional survey — details about the struck window.
Technical data. [IF YOU USE ANALYTICS OR CRASH REPORTING, DESCRIBE IT HERE — e.g. “We use [provider] to collect anonymous crash and usage data to improve the app.” IF NOT, STATE: “We do not use third-party analytics or advertising trackers.”]
Collision reports contribute to citizen-science understanding of bird mortality. [IF YOU INTEGRATE WITH OR SUBMIT DATA TO A THIRD-PARTY DATABASE SUCH AS dBird OR THE GLOBAL BIRD COLLISION MAPPER, DISCLOSE IT HERE — e.g. “Reports you submit may be shared with [database], where they may appear publicly with approximate location, species, and status.” IF NOT, STATE THAT REPORTS STAY WITHIN FLYWAY.] We share only what's needed for research and never sell your data.
We rely on third parties to run the app, such as hosting and map providers ([e.g. Cloudflare, your backend host, your map/tiles provider]). They process data only to provide their services to us.
Flyway's residency/migration estimates use data from the eBird Status and Trends Project at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, eBird.org. Any opinions, findings, and conclusions expressed in Flyway are those of the developer and do not necessarily reflect the views of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.
We keep collision reports and de-identified assessment data for as long as needed for the app's research and conservation purposes. [ADD ANY SPECIFIC RETENTION PERIOD IF YOU SET ONE.]
Flyway is not directed to children under [13 / 16 — choose per your target markets], and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
Flyway is available globally (the rescue-center finder is US-only). If you use Flyway from outside [your country], your information may be processed in [country where your servers are], which may have different data-protection laws.
We take reasonable measures to protect your information, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
We may update this policy; we'll revise the “last updated” date above and, for significant changes, provide notice in the app.
